Abstract
Objectives. Undergraduates entering society and family members around them significantly in terms of their knowledge, attitudes, and behavior related to oral health.
Methods. We conducted a self-assessment survey of 634 undergraduates at three universities from October 21st to 30th of 2008. The collected data were converted into scores and analyzed with the statistical program, SPSS.
Results. 1. We had 30.2% male students and 56.9% of all surveyed had received oral health education. 2. The level of oral health knowledge varied significantly with age (p＜0.001) or major (p＜0.001). Students with oral health education gained 1.8 but those without it received 7.0; thus, knowledge scores differences were large and overall scores were not sufficient in either group. 3. Oral health attitudes varied with age (p＜0.001) or major (p＜0.001). The 32 students with oral health education gained 13.0 and without received a 5.8;neither having a positive attitudes. 4. Levels of practical oral health behavior, varied with age (p＜0.001) or major (p＜0.001). The oral health education students gained 10.0 whereas the ones not having taken it got 2.2, indicating little practical oral health practical behavior. 5. The correlation coefficient between oral heath knowledge, attitudes, and practical behavior was high (r=0.7, p＜0.01).
Conclusions. Undergraduates’ levels of knowledge, attitudes, and practical behavior related to their oral health.
